Is my 30% deposit refundable if I need to cancel?
No. The most critical aspect of the Discover Life Travel booking policy is that the 30% deposit is strictly non-refundable.
Why is the deposit strictly non-refundable?
The 30% deposit is legally structured as a "genuine pre-estimate of significant unrecoverable costs". When you book a tour, Discover Life Travel must immediately begin laying out working capital to secure the complex logistics of your trip. The funds from your deposit go directly toward paying non-refundable deposits to Indian heritage hotels, purchasing domestic airfares for your internal flights across India, and covering the administrative expenses of bespoke itinerary curation. Because these funds are immediately absorbed by third-party suppliers to guarantee your arrangements, the organizers cannot recover them if you later decide to cancel.
If I cancel, can I roll my 30% deposit over into a Future Travel Credit for another trip?
No. Because the 30% deposit covers immediate, sunk costs, it cannot be rolled over into future travel credits under standard cancellation circumstances. If you cancel your trip 56 days or more before the departure date, Discover Life Travel will automatically retain the 30% deposit to cover their unrecoverable supplier costs.
However, any funds you have paid in excess of that initial 30% base deposit will be preserved and held as a Future Travel Credit, which you can use on another Discover Life Travel tour.
Am I allowed to pay more than the 30% minimum deposit at checkout?
Yes. When you interact with the digital booking platform to secure your trip, the checkout system defaults to the required 30% minimum deposit, but you are given the flexibility to pay more if you wish. If you enter a custom payment amount that is larger than the 30% minimum, the platform will apply the funds to the non-refundable deposit first, and then distribute the remaining excess funds to your future installments.
Can I use a promotional discount code to lower the upfront deposit cost?
No. If you have been provided with a promotional discount code, it does not apply to the 30% deposit. You must still pay the full 30% deposit upfront, and the platform's system will automatically deduct the value of the discount code from your subsequent remaining balance.
Does my travel contract become active the moment I pay the deposit online?
No, it is important to note the legal timing of the deposit. Simply completing the checkout process and paying the 30% deposit does not instantly form your travel contract. A legally binding contract is only formed after the deposit has been successfully received and Discover Life Travel subsequently issues a formal written confirmation of your booking.

There is one specific exception where the 30% deposit is protected. If Discover Life Travel is forced to cancel the tour themselves prior to departure, they waive the non-refundable rule. In the rare event of an operator-initiated cancellation, you will be offered the choice of a full refund (which includes the return of your 30% deposit) or a Future Travel Credit for the full amount paid, plus an exclusive $200 bonus credit to compensate for the inconvenience.
