Cavalry Villa sits inside Bikaner's old walled city, owned and run by an army couple who bring genuine warmth to every stay. Mahendra and Bhawna are lovely hosts, and Mahendra is full of stories from his years of cavalry service - one room even doubles as a bar-library, lined with uniforms and medals from a career that included guarding presidents and world leaders. A small shop on the property donates its proceeds toward stray dog rescue, a quiet detail that says a lot about the people running the place. The courtyard, framed by bougainvillea and a Makrana marble fountain, makes for the perfect spot to hear another tale over evening chai.

We stay at Taj Hari Mahal, set on six acres of gardens with Mughal-inspired domes and Marwar-style architecture that catches your eye the moment you arrive. The rooms blend Rajasthani design with genuine comfort, the kind of place that feels grand without feeling stiff. There's an outdoor pool and spa on-site, and two restaurants covering Jodhpuri classics alongside international favourites. What stands out most is the staff — warm, attentive, and quick to anticipate what guests need. Some evenings bring a bit of magic too, with sitar music drifting through the lobby.

The Lalit sits up on a hill above Fateh Sagar Lake, and honestly, the view alone is worth the stay. Maharana Fateh Singh built it back in 1911, and you can feel that history the moment you step through the arched entrance - old gardens, carved balconies, that quiet grandeur that only comes with age. Rooms are comfortable and calm, looking out over either the lake or the hills, with real attention paid to the small things. The staff genuinely make the stay - warm, attentive, quick to help without ever feeling intrusive. There's a spa and a games room for relaxing.

The Golden Surya Palace surprised me from the very first look - I'd expected pretty, and found stunning instead. The villas are the real reason to stay: each one hides behind its own walled garden with a private plunge pool, tucked away so completely you forget anyone else is on the property. Carved wood, local textiles, warm earthy tones - the Rajasthani design feels lived-in rather than dressed up for guests. There's a huge outdoor pool too, and after a morning wandering Pushkar Lake and the market lanes, it's a great refresher. And the manager - sharp wit, quick with a joke, the kind of host who makes you feel like a regular after one conversation. 

We stay at the Hilton, right in the heart of Jaipur, close to the city's main sights and markets. The rooftop pool is the standout - a proper spot to unwind with Aravalli hill views stretching out around you. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, well put together without feeling overdone. There's a full spa, and the food here is incredible, easily some of the best dining of the whole trip. What stands out most, though, is the staff - genuinely warm, quick to help, the kind of service that makes a busy city stay feel easy and unhurried.

As we arrive at Jaypee Palace and the noise of Agra fades behind twenty-five acres of gardens, red sandstone walkways, and ponds edged with reeds. Peacocks cross the lawns in the late afternoon, unhurried, as if the grounds belong to them too. The rooms looks out over green space, a small thing that shifts the whole mood of a stay. Staff move quietly through the corridors, attentive without hovering, present the moment something is needed. The pool sits away from the main paths, calm and rarely crowded. Meals are served across a handful of venues, from a quiet corner table to a seat near the garden.
